Open Tabs and Windows

Here are some hotkey commands for opening a web page in a new tab or window.

Ctrl+N: Open a new window. Ctrl+Link: Open a link in a new tab. Ctrl+Shift+N: Open a new window in Incognito Mode. Shift+Link: Open a link in a new window. Ctrl+T: Open a new tab. Ctrl+Shift+T: Reopen the last closed tab. Ctrl+O: Open a file in the browser.

Switch Between Tabs

When there are several open tabs, use these keyboard shortcuts to navigate to a different tab.

Ctrl+1: Switch to the tab in position 1 on the tab strip.Ctrl+2: Switch to the tab in position 2 on the tab strip.Ctrl+3: Switch to the tab in position 3 on the tab strip.Ctrl+4: Switch to the tab in position 4 on the tab strip.Ctrl+5: Switch to the tab in position 5 on the tab strip.Ctrl+6: Switch to the tab in position 6 on the tab strip.Ctrl+7: Switch to the tab in position 7 on the tab strip.Ctrl+8: Switch to the tab in position 8 on the tab strip.Ctrl+9: Switch to the last tab on the tab strip.

If you’ve used the same browser tab to visit several web pages and want to view one of these pages again, use one of these shortcuts from the current tab.

Backspace or Alt+Left Arrow: Go to the previous page.Shift+Backspace or Alt+Right Arrow: Go to the next page.

Load Pages

When pages don’t load correctly, use a refresh hotkey to reload the page:

F5: Reload or refresh the current page.Esc: Stop the current page from loading.Ctrl+F5: Reload the current page and refresh the cache.Shift+F5: Reload the current page and ignore cached content.

Search Within Pages

Search for specific words or phrases on a web page with these shortcuts:

Ctrl+F: Open the Find in Page dialog box.Ctrl+G or F3: Find the next match from the Find in Page dialog box.Ctrl+Shift+G or Shift+F3: Find the previous match from the Find in Page dialog box.

Change Text Size

Make web pages easier to read with these hotkey combinations:

Ctrl++ (Plus sign): Make text larger.Ctrl+- (Minus sign): Make text smaller.Ctrl+0: Return to default text size.

Save, Copy, and Paste

Copy and save text and images from web pages with these shortcuts:

Ctrl+S: Save the current page.Ctrl+C: Copy selected text or images to the Clipboard.Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert: Paste the Clipboard content and preserve the formatting.Alt+Link: Save and download the web page at the link address.

Bookmarks and Browsing History

Keep track of the web pages you find interesting and informative with these key combinations:

Ctrl+D: Bookmark the current page.Ctrl+H: View Browsing History.Ctrl+B: Toggle bookmarks display.Ctrl+Shift+B: Activate or disable the Bookmarks Bar.

Address Bar

Spend less time entering website addresses by using these shortcuts:

Ctrl+Enter: Add www. before or .com after the text in the address bar.Ctrl+Backspace: Remove the term before the cursor in the address bar.Ctrl+L or Alt+D: Highlight the URL in the address bar.Ctrl+K or Ctrl+E: Enter a question mark in the address bar.

Views, Menus, and Developer Tools

When you want to see what goes on behind the scenes, use these keyboard shortcuts:

Shift+Esc: View Chrome’s internal Task Manager. Ctrl+J: View Downloads. Ctrl+U: View the source code of the current page. Ctrl+Shift+J: Open Chrome’s Developer Tools. Alt+E or Alt+F: Open Chrome’s Tools menu. Ctrl+Shift+Delete: Open the Clear Browsing Data window.

Here are a few leftover keyboard combinations you may find helpful:

Ctrl+P: Print the current page. F1: Open Chrome’s Help Center in a new tab or window. F6 or Shift+F6: Advance through active components on the current page, or items in Chrome’s Address bar, Bookmarks bar, or Downloads bar.
